The Garibaldi monument, a bronze statue in the heart of Pisa, stands in Piazza Garibaldi between the Casino dei Nobili and the Ponte di Mezzo. Created by Ettore Ferrari at the Crescenzi foundry in Rome, the statue was inaugurated on June 26, 1892. The figurine of the General is modeled at life-size, in a heroic style, but still retains a noble and fierce character. The statue base features three scenes from Garibaldi’s life: O Roma or death, Aspromonte, where he was wounded, and Pisa, where he was welcomed and cared for. An epigraph on the front of the pedestal reads: 'Pisa to Garibaldi MDCCCXCII'.
