The Fumera del Gas Reusense isn't just a chimney. It is a testament to the ambition and ingenuity of the people of Reus in the mid-19th century. Built in 1856 as part of the Gas Reusense industry, it was the first industrial power plant in the area, converting coal into gas to supply gas to the city. The Fumera’s distinctive brick structure has a square base, and a single central cylindrical tube that narrows towards the top, supported by 17 metallic rings and topped by an arch-shaped crown. The Fumera del Gas Reusense once dominated the Reus skyline. The Gas Reusense Society, led by Macià Vila, supplied gas for public and private lighting and continued to generate electricity until 1899.
