From mosque to Baroque beauty: San Nicolás de Bari, Murcia

San Nicolás de Bari, located in the heart of Murcia, Spain, has a unique history that spans over seven centuries. Originally a mosque, replaced during the Christian conquest of the city in 1266, it was eventually replaced by a Christian church, marking the beginnings of the San Nicolás story. By 1272, the first church on the site was listed as a parish, situated on an important communication axis in the old medina. While the old building was remodeled in a Mudéjar style and with a Manierist façade in 1616, the deteriorated condition of the church required urgent demolition in the 18th century, with construction beginning in 1736. The current building is a Baroque-style church, built in the first half of the 18th century. A possible connection to the altar major is Jaime Bort, as suggested by some sources.
