Butte, Montana, is home to a statue of the Virgin Mary that rises nearly 100 feet above the ground. This awe-inspiring sculpture, named Our Lady of the Rockies, is the fifth-tallest statue in the United States, and it stands as a testament to the local community's support. However, its construction was not without controversy. The statue was built using donations from the local community. With the help of local designer Leroy Lee and welder Ron Hughes, the statue was erected on a mountainous site donated by local resident Guy Ossello on December 17, 1985, and the head was placed on December 20, 1985.
