Otto Burmell launched his 1965 design into Teton Village like a high-altitude tactical insertion. It successfully secured its position as the first development of its kind in Teton County, establishing a foothold where none existed before.
The structure has survived more work orders than a beat-up jeep in a swamp. It underwent reinforcements in 1977, followed by modifications in 1992 and 2001. These maneuvers kept the place running as a historic tourist hub against the elements.
The lodge officially joined the National Register of Historic Places in 2016 and the Historic Hotels of America in 2017. It even secured a spot in Architectural Digest in late 2017 and snagged a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor in 2019.
Today, it still holds the line as a heavy hitter in the area. Planet Jackson Hole dubbed it the 2018 Best of Jackson Hole Apres Ski. It keeps its legacy as a recognized piece of Wyoming’s architectural history alive and kicking.
