Guardians of the Marijampole Hillfort

Situated on the northern bank of the Nemunas river, the Marijampole hillfort, also known as Piktagalio hillfort, is a cultural monument and popular tourist destination. Its oval shape is enclosed by a ditch 3 meters deep, the widest on the eastern side where an 8-meter-wide terrace and descent are found. The western side features a 3-meter-deep ditch followed by a 1-meter-high ramp. A settlement dating back to the 13th to 17th century was discovered just 250 meters to the right of the hillfort. Whispers of unseen guardians are said to still linger on the wind that sweeps across the hill.
