Ancient relics hidden in the bend of a river

On the outskirts of Kupiškis, just off the main road to Panevėžys, sits a hillfort that dates back to the ninth century. This hillfort, known as Vaduvos hillfort, is part of the archive number 23828 and is covered by the National Museum of Lithuania. Vaduvos hillfort is an archaeological site and a protected cultural monument. It is located in Seteksnos (Jaros) on the left bank of the river, and it is situated at an elevation of 5-10 meters. The area enclosed by the hillfort is approximately 40 m in circumference. Archaeological excavations within Vaduvos hillfort have uncovered pottery remains and a fortified gate. The hillfort was added to the list of Cultural Heritage Monuments in 1973, and it is protected by a buffer zone of 10,000 m².
