A Hidden Hillfort in the Jonava Region: A Window into Lithuania's Past

The archaeological site known as Tartoko piliakalnis, or Koplyčkalniu, is nestled in the Jonava region, near Tartoko Ruklos seniūnija. Accessible through a path, the site can be reached by crossing Lomeną to the right side of the road (143 Jonava–Zasliai–Kloniniai Mijaugonys) and traveling 440 meters further, beyond its edge. The hill fort, also known as the hill and the bank, is believed to have been built in the first to second century AD. The site encompasses a 0.5-hectare terrain, teeming with shards of broken and whole ceramics. The hill fort was discovered by the Institute of History in 1971. The Lithuanian Republic’s government registered it as a cultural heritage on May 19, 1998 (Nr.612). The hill fort appears to have been constructed with scattered stones.
