Situated between Naples and Sorrento along Southern Italy's coast, the Villa Poppaea, also known as Villa Oplontis or Oplontis Villa A, was one of many villas that dotted the Gulf of Naples, a playground of opulence and decadence. For eons, it has been hypothesized that the villa belonged to Emperor Nero, but recently, scholars puzzle over whether his wife Poppaea Sabina ever entertained in this villa. The reason for this discrepancy? The response, much like the villa's initial proprietor, remains a tantalizing enigma.
