The Tower of Demons in Castellgalí: A 3rd-Century Roman Sepulchre's Fascinating

The Tower of Demons, popularly known as La Torre del Breny, is a remarkable archaeological site located in Castellgalí, in the Bages region of Barcelona Province, Spain. Believed to have derived from ‘Elbreny’, a property of Elderind in the 10th century, the Torre del Breny is an archaeological site that showcases a remarkable piece of Spain’s past. Although largely destroyed over time, the remaining structure still captivates visitors. Forming the shape of a cross, only the base is preserved. It features two rectangular chambers with barrel vaults, masterfully constructed of grisly arenisca without any mortar. Alexander de Laborde drew it before its destruction, and Esteban de Corbera referenced its existence in 1678. J.F. Masdeu reported it remained intact until the late 18th century.

Restoration efforts in the 20th century by Josep Puig i Cadafalch and Albertini added to the existing historical data.
