The Ubach family's ancient stronghold: Mas de l'Obac Vell in Catalonia

In the heart of Vacarisses, Vallès Occidental, Catalonia, stands the Mas de l'Obac Vell, a cultural heritage from the 14th century. Originally, this building may have served as a refuge for the Ubach family, fleeing adversities. By the 18th century, the Ubach family had thrived, capitalizing on the American market for liquor, with wine production being their specialty. The Mas de l'Obac Vell, however, suffered two destructive incidents: it was burned by Napoleonic troops in 1811 and again by the Carlists in 1836, leading to its abandonment. Nearby, another cultural heritage site, the Pou de glaç de l'Obac Vell, was strategically placed near a road connecting significant structures, such as the Casa Nova de l'Obac and the house of the Barata. Today, visitors may access the ruins of Mas de l'Obac Vell within the Natural Park of Sant Llorenç del Munt and the Serra de l'Obac solely on foot.
