In Ascoli Piceno, a 12-meter Christ the Redeemer harks, 'Got my sight back yet?

A beneficent, yet snickering divinity gazes over the town. Made from stone, wearing a grim grin.

Perched atop a hill, the Statua del Sacro Cuore di Gesù, famously recognized as Christ the Redeemer, stands at 12 meters - 7 for its base and 5 for the statue itself. This grand stature was raised in 1954, a humble token of gratitude bestowed upon a higher power for its watchful protection during World War II. With arms open wide and eyes watchful, the statue guards the town like a benevolent but slightly sarcastic deity. Carved from travertine stone from Castel Trosino, this stone statue tips the scales at a hefty 15 tons.ynnounding it in the Borgo di Sant'Annelle, where ancient churches and enchanting lanes unfold. Although its eyes have glimpsed twice upon the hand of lightning, in 1965 and again in 1990, restorations followed, but the statue remained unwavering. In 2023, it underwent a rennovation, striving to preserve its glorious past.ynn
