The spire that towers over England

Salisbury Cathedral, formally known as Salisbury Cathedral, is an Anglican cathedral in the city of Salisbury, England. Constructed between 1220 and 1258, the cathedral is an example of Early English Gothic design. The cathedral's spire stands at 404 feet (123 m) and is the tallest in England. Salisbury Cathedral was built after the original cathedral in the district, which was located at Old Sarum, was moved in 1197 due to deteriorating relations between the clergy and the military. The foundation stones of the new building were laid by William Longespée, 3rd Earl of Salisbury, and Ela of Salisbury, 3rd Countess of Salisbury. In 2008, the cathedral celebrated the 750th anniversary of its consecration. Today, it is a must-see for any history enthusiast.
