Viking Trelleborg Replica is located in Trelleborg, Sweden. Built on the site of a Viking Age military fort, it is part of a larger trelleborg system. Established by King Harald Bluetooth, it may have been one of several trelleborgs constructed to control his lands. Harald Bluetooth, a king of Denmark and Skåne, forced Christianity upon his subjects and made many enemies, Trelleborg fort being a key part of his strategies to maintain control, including against his son Sweyn Forkbeard who rebelled. The original fort fell into disuse after Harald's death and other trelleborgs were destroyed in rebellion. The replica fort was constructed by archaeologist Bengt Jacobsson and architects Eje and Eva Arén, using materials sourced from nearby wooded areas. The site also features a Viking museum and reconstructed Viking houses.
