The Reborn Stage of Juan Bravo

The Teatro Juan Bravo, Segovia's main theatre, sits on the city's Plaza Mayor, a spot once occupied by La Zarzuela theatre and the Reina Victoria cinema. Named after local communist leader Juan Bravo, its construction began in 1917, the brainchild of architect Francisco Javier Cabello Dodero. The building was inaugurated on October 26, 1918. The Diputación Provincial de Segovia acquired the theater in 1982, who rehabilitated it and reopened it to the public in 1989. The project was led by the architects Gloria Alcázar, Miguel Ángel García, and Carlos Lavesa, and funded by the Program of Rehabilitation of 52 Theatres of the 19th Century from the Ministry of Public Works and Urbanism and the Ministry of Culture. In 2022, the building was declared a cultural asset of interest with the status of monument.
