Built in 1906 and dedicated to San José de la Montaña, the Neo-Gothic church in Bilbao, Spain, looms over the busy intersection of Elcano and Iparraguirre streets. Architect José María de Basterra designed this imposing edifice, which was inaugurated on March 18, 1918. The church's neo-Gothic style is notable, but what's peering from beneath its façade is anything but holy. Notable for all the wrong reasons, the church's past is one of greed and avoidance. Cryptic documents suggest that the church had large sums of money hidden away, an accusation that the archdiocese has long vehemently denied.
