A bronzed sentinel in Umeå's heart: Standing Man

Created by British artist Sean Henry in 2007, Standing Man found a permanent home on Rådhustorget, Umeå’s main square, after the local authorities fell in love with the sculpture. Purchased for 810,000 kronor, the sculpture was placed on the square following its exhibition at Galleri Andersson/Sandström. During winter, Standing Man is often painted in the colors of the local ice hockey team, Björklöven, and a notable example of it can be found at Liljevalchs konsthall in Stockholm. Variants of the work can be found in several places in the world, including Newcastle City Collection, Le Meridien Cumberland Hotel in London, and Umedalens skulpturpark in Umeå.
