The Jumper Sculpture: A Blue-Booted Child, Finding and Reclaiming after Theft

The Jumper, or Hoppare, is an aluminum sculpture by Mikael Åberg, depicting a little child in blue boots, T-shirt, top hat, and cyclops, situated on a tegelmur in a park outside the Umeå City Church in central Umeå. Nearby lie three cast-in depressions – water wells that invite the child to jump down to. Hoppare was created during a collaboration between the Church of Sweden in Umeå and the study association Sensus, which was part of the 'Contemporary Art Meets Church Project', in preparation for the cultural capital year 2014. After being stolen, it was later found at a recycling station and promptly returned to its chosen location.
