The last bastion of the village

The Torre del Portal de Riudoms, one of twelve towers that once surrounded the medieval village of Vila-seca, remains as a testament to its past. The source material only indicates that currently, only a part of its base is conserved, suggesting it was possibly shorter than seven stories. When it was whole, it stood with the visible base. This tower shares common features with the other Vila-seca towers, as they formed a double emmurallated clos. However, the source material does not specify the exact number of stories the tower originally had. The Torre del Portal de Riudoms was one of the access gates to the village, the portal of Riudoms. The twelve towers originally may have had merlons, but no signs of their existence are observed. Today, the tower stands not only as a monument but also as a guardian to the memories of the village's past.
