The house that started a beach town

The Chalet Barnuevo, a Modernist house from the twentieth century, is nestled in Santiago de la Ribera, a coastal municipality in San Javier, Murcia, Spain. The house, one of the first dwellings in the coastal population, was strategically built to trigger the urban development of the surrounding areas.

In the early twentieth century, Teresa Sandoval, one of the heirs, married José María Barnuevo, and the couple managed the hotel as a summer residence for much of the twentieth century. The Barnuevo-Sandoval family built the Chalet Barnuevo and the Hermitage of Saint James the Apostle, marking the start of urban expansion in Santiago de la Ribera.

The Chalet Barnuevo, a pentagonal-shaped house featuring rooms with supportive services on each side, still stands as a testament to the past and a reminder of its role in the history of Santiago de la Ribera.

Today, Chalet Barnuevo continues to host various cultural and tourist events, preserving its historical value and contributing to the charm of Santiago de la Ribera.
