The hillfort standing in the river bend

Opstainys 2nd hillfort, located in Opstainio kaimas, Vilkyškių seniūnijoje, in the territory of pagėgių savivaldybės, is a historic archaeological site dating back to the 1st millennium AD. The hillfort, identified by a small embankment on the western bank of a stream about 1.5 km to the northeast of the first Opstainys hillfort, is believed to be a burial mound, standing at an unusual elevation of 19 meters, with a height of 2 meters above the surrounding plain. The eastern part is partially destroyed, while the northern part holds scattered settlement remnants, where broken pottery and molten iron have been found. The hillfort is registered as a cultural heritage object of national importance on May 19, 1998, with a registration number of 612 and an area of approximately 5800 m².

The hillfort is listed in the Lithuania TSR Cultural Heritage Register, Volume 1, 1973, page 182. It is also listed in Crome H. Verzeichnis der Wehranlagen Ostpreußens, published in 1938, page 192.
