The Mysterious Pagan Shrine of Burbaičiai Hillfort

Burbaičiai Hillfort, or Piliukas, lies in the eastern part of Kelmė region’s self-government territory, near Burbaičiai settlement, towards Kražantė riverbanks. The hillfort's edge faces Dzindziuko upelis. On the left bank, 0.4 meters northwest, there is the Prušinskių dune. The hillfort is popularly known for its legends and lore, particularly the one about the pagan shrine in its eastern part. L. Kšivickis writes in his book 'Žemaičių senovėje' that in the eastern part of the hillfort there was a pagan shrine, which could still be seen, from time to time, in the form of a halo, glowing from the ground.
