Beyond the breath of the wind, a silent testament shines; the Temple of Mentuhotep II from the 11th Dynasty. Once, this was a regal edifice, soaring as a palace. Alas, the hands of time, crafty as they are, have left it a shadow of its former might, standing partially preserved. The secret of its location, a sapphire lost in the desert sands, was unearthed only in the 19th century, on the Western Theban Hill, near the graves of his ancestors' kings. This temple, a trinket of yesteryears, is a pivotal archaeological site, bridging the gap between the Pyramid Temples of the Old Kingdom and the Million-Year Temples of the New Kingdom. Though its beauty is faded and marred, it still sings the sagas of a bygone age
