The ancient theatre of Taormina is perched on a cliff overlooking the Ionian Sea in Taormina, Sicily. Originally built in the third century BC, it is one of the oldest theatres in Magna Graecia. It was rebuilt under Roman rule, and today it can hold around 10,000 spectators. On either side of the skene, the stage area, were basilicas. Today, the theatre is used as a venue for the annual Taormina Film Festival. It has been featured extensively in pop culture, including the 1995 film Mighty Aphrodite and in season 2, episode 2, of the HBO series The White Lotus (2023).
