The Church of Santa María de la Asunción in Castro-Urdiales, Spain

Built in the 13th century, the Church of Santa María de la Asunción in Castro-Urdiales, Spain, stands near the sea and the castle, towards the fishing port of the city. The church was built under the protection of King Alfonso VIII of Castilla. In the 16th century, the church had several chapels, but it was in 1955 that the church gained a hidden treasure. While a group of children were playing ball outside the church, one of them accidentally revealed a section of a sculpture, hidden in a wall for centuries. The sculpture was a French-influenced Gothic image of the Virgin White, dated back to the 13th century.
