The Ancien Palais des Evêques, a venerable French chateau nestled within the commune of Issigeac, in the department of Dordogne, is undergoing renovation, bolstered by funds from the Fondation du Patrimoine. The Bishop of Sarlat has held sway over this city since 1358. The chateau, a summer retreat for the Bishops of Sarlat until the Revolution, was erected around 1660 under the supervision of Bishop François de Salignac. The Ancien Palais des Evêques carries a history that stretches over a thousand years. In 1681, John Fénelon, a notable French figure, took up residence within its walls.
