Macastre Castle: Revealing its unique dual history

Macastre Castle, standing grandly in Spain's Valencia region, has a complex history woven with Islamic and Medieval Christian influences. Originally constructed in the 11th century during the Islamic era, it underwent significant transformations during the 14th century when it was renovated by Christian forces. Situated near the border between Valencia and Castilla, the castle was a strategic point, sheltered by walls on its northern and southern sides with towers at each end. Within its enclosure, the castle housed various dependencies, and also had communal water cisterns and granaries for the local village.
