A visit to Castell de Tous

Castell de Tous is a medieval defensive structure standing in ruins today at the municipality of Tous, in the comarca of La Ribera Alta (Province of València). Its remains are protected as a place of cultural interest with the annotation Ministerial RI-51-0010680 of September 12, 2001. Jaume el Conqueridor resided here during the siege of Xàtiva. The castle has two zones of fortification. The southern part has the majority of defensive structures and the main residential compound with remains of the internal chambers, foundations of towers, and remains of walls at dado and masonry. At the northern end lies a large rectangular tower built on rock, surrounded by the walls of an older fortification. The large tower lost the merlons, but still has its upper vault. Both conjunctions are connected by long walls and the remains are still visible at the beginning of the 21st century.
