Nestled in Marijampolės region, near Lakinskai, Liudvinavas seniūnija, stands a historical landmark called Lakinskų archaeological site. It covers belt-width 3 hectares and contains the remains of ancient structures and pottery. The top part, you ask? 11 meters wide, 1.5 meters high, and 0.5 meters deep. An intriguing feature: a carving by Jonas Basanavičius - a peculiar human footstep. Once used as a lookout point, later it morphed into a bridge, and today, it symbolizes Lithuania's intriguing past, legally preserved since May 19, 1998, according to the Cultural Heritage Protection Act of the Republic of Lithuania. But the story of the footstep? Well, it's one heck of a tale that's yet to be told.
