The Arco de San Basilio: Mudéjar Glory in Cuéllar, Spain

The Arco de San Basilio, located in the medieval city of Cuéllar, Spain, is a testament to the Mudéjar architectural style. One of five gates offering access to the city fortress, it is connected to the city wall and serves as a gateway between the inner and outer parts of the city. Constructed with a blend of masonry, brickwork, and Mudéjar work, the Arco de San Basilio is especially marked by its arches and towers, reminiscent of the Mudéjar work in Toledo. The mudéjar work on the tower is crowned by a triple coat of arms: the arms of Cuéllar in the center, flanked by the arms of Cueva and Toledo. The Arco de San Basilio underwent restoration in 1972, thanks to funding from Caja Segovia and the Provincial Diputation of Segovia.
