Originally established in 1146, the Abbey of Santa Maria de Retuerta stands today as a surviving Benedictine monastery. Even after enduring the challenges brought by the Napoleonic wars, it remains one of only two in Spain that did so. Now, this 12th-century monastery in the Castilla y León region of Spain has been transformed into Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine, a luxurious hotel that is part of the Relais & Chateaux family. The entire 700-hectare estate, composed of vineyards and forests, houses the monastery as its main building.
Apart from the hotel, the estate features a Michelin-starred restaurant, a world-class spa, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a yoga studio, a fitness center, a sculpture garden, and an exclusive helipad. Guests can explore the estate’s renowned winery, organic gardens, and working farm via private 4x4 transfers. The restored church hosts elegant events, while the estate’s four distinct dining venues offer a variety of culinary experiences. Abadia Retuerta offers two other dining options within its walls, including La Vinoteca for tapas and Jardin del Claustro for casual dining during the summer months.
