Gothenburg Cathedral: 1633 Witness to History

Situated at Västra Hamngatan 10B in Gothenburg, Sweden, the Gothenburg Cathedral is the cathedral seat of the bishop of the diocese of Gothenburg in the Church of Sweden. Initially constructed in 1633, after the city's first church, Gothenburg stave church, was in use for around 12 years, the building replaced an earlier guard tower. The cathedral was only officially named a cathedral in the 1680s. Buried beneath the pulpit is S Debrey, who died in childbirth in 1687. Notably, the cathedral bears her name.
