Rokiškės: Time-worn Guardian on a Separate Hill

Situated on a distinct hill near Rokiškės First Street, Kruonio Eldership, is the archaeological site known as Rokiškės hillfort (Object ID MC 23714). Accessible via the road Kalviai (Kaišiadorys) – Kubiliai (Kaišiadorys), this site sits 200 meters north of the Plaskūnus crossing. The oval platform of the hillfort, oriented north-south, stands 1.5 meters high and 3 meters wide, encircled by a ditch up to 1.5 meters deep and up to 7.5 meters wide. The larger western part of the platform extends without any noticeable steps or ramps. It is believed that the hillfort was constructed between the 1st century BC and the 2nd century AD. Remnants, including pottery, fragments of mortar, and bricks, have been discovered within the hillfort. Rokiškės hillfort was designated a cultural heritage site by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania in 1998, with the site spanning 20,000 m².
