The Keldal Income House is a historic architectural monument located on Austrian Square in Saint Petersburg. This building cannot be overlooked, as it stands out with its unusual appearance that literally immerses one in an old-world atmosphere, as well as impresses with its grandeur and refinements. Architectural features The building was designed by the legendary V.V. Shaub, with construction beginning in 1902–1903. The Art Nouveau style, which was especially popular at the time, was taken as the basis, making the income house of great value to art historians today. Wilhelm Shaub is considered one of the most active architects of that era, overseeing numerous projects. The master himself, known as the Petersburg German, left a vast historical legacy, embodying many projects in his works. The facade of this house is decorated with various floral ornaments, with special attention given to the window frames, which look truly remarkable. The multi-story building, complemented by various spires, towers, and turrets, features an interesting color scheme that immediately attracts attention. The main vertical element, which was emphasized, decorates the corner of the building. Textured lines and other aesthetic elements are defining in the overall composition of the structure. In 2001, the Keldal Income House was included in the list of objects of special historical and scientific value for Russia. The decree was issued by the KGIOP. Historical development. It is known that this house changed many owners. For example, from 1907–1908, the writer Andreev lived here, and from 1923–1934, the architectural monument was owned by Shchuko, who organized a large workshop inside for creating theatrical sketches. About 10 people worked in the workshop, and some works became so large that they simply did not fit even through the wide studio doorways and had to be lowered from the balcony to the street on long ropes to be transported to the required location. Anyone can see this creation while walking around Austrian Square. The house has no number, but it does not need to be searched for, as the authentic embodiment of the Art Nouveau style attracts attention without any numbers. As for the modern history of the income house, it can be confidently said that it is under constant observation. The embodiment of cultural value has gained great popularity not only among our compatriots but also among foreign art historians. That is why the Keldal Income House is one of the main architectural monuments often photographed by foreigners.
