Nestled in the heart of Genova, at San Luca al civico 14, you'll find Palazzo Nicolò Spinola di San Luca. Built for the enigmatic Nicolò Spinola in the heart of the 16th century, this peculiar palace shows off a peculiar length-wise layout, despite its modest width. Strangely, the exact year of its completion continues to elude us. This palace clings tightly to the unbroken, linear system of atrium-staircase, extending all the way to the second floor.
Step through each room, as they lead you on a journey to the next, where you'll find chambers, off-chambers, halls, and salons characteristic of the novel residential culture. The entrance was crafted by the architect Giovanni Antonio Paracca, known as 'il Valsoldo'. In the 19th century, the palace found its way into Agostino Maglione's possession. He was a member of the illustrious 19th-century bourgeoisie, active in the enlightenment movement. The palace was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2006.
