Palazzo Giorgio Centurione, located in Via Lomellini at no. 5 in the historical centre of Genoa, is included on the list of the 42 palaces inscribed in the Rolli di Genova, which became World Heritage by UNESCO on 13 July 2006. The palace, built at the end of the 16th century on the commission of Giorgio Centurione by Gaspare Corte, served as a refuge for poor girls. These girls later became nuns under the protection of Saint Virginia Centurione Bracelli, who was sanctified by Pope John Paul II in 2003. The congregation of nuns she founded under the protection of Emanuele Brignole, founder of the Grande Albergo dei Poveri, took the name ‘brignoline’. The palace was later acquired by the Doria family and was reconstructed in the 19th century.
