Pakačinės hillfort

Pakačinės hillfort, located in Pakačinė, Antazavės seniūnija, Zarasū district, Lithuania, is registered to the Protection List of Cultural Heritage of Lithuania on December 19, 2005, under number A984P. The hillfort is situated on a separate hill, with an approximately 35-meter long circumference and an average wall thickness of 0.5 meters. In the western slope, there is a 20-meter-long and 6-meter-wide ditch, 1-meter deep. In the southern slope, there is a 21-meter-long and 20-meter-wide terrace.

The hillfort, constructed by amalgamating earlier buildings, was studied by the Institute of History in 1949 and 1972. Petras Tarasenka excavated a 30-square-meter area in the western slope in 1933, finding various artifacts including pottery, iron objects, bones, and glass. The hillfort is believed to date back to the Iron Age, around 1st century BCE to 1st century CE. Today, the hillfort stands as a testament to Lithuania's rich and complex past, inviting visitors to explore its remaining relics and to imagine the lives of those who once thrived within its walls.
