Iron Age hillfort hidden under ancient forest near Velikuškės

The 2nd hillfort of Velikuškės, situated in Antazavės seniūnija, Zarasų rajono savivaldybės teritorijoje, is 1.4 km from Velikuškių pirmojo. It is hidden under a dense forest, near Sartų ežero Bradesių įlankos pietrytiniame krante, nestled between the river and the Zalvė upelio kairiajame krante. Built in the late afternoon – pietryčių kryptimi, 1963 metų, this hillfort has a rectangular shape, measuring 150 x 73 m. The hillfort was covered by a protective structure in 1972 m. First studied by the Institute of History in 1972, it dates back to the Iron Age, 1st to 2nd century BC. Today, visitors can only imagine the grandeur of this hillfort, now hidden under a forest, waiting to be discovered. It serves as a poignant reminder of the area’s rich history, showcasing the civilization that once thrived here.
