Monument to the Contested Capture of Si Taurez

In the year 1909, on a fateful day in September, the hills of Taxdirt, a heavily fortified stronghold in Melilla, Spain, witnessed a momentous battle against the Moroccan mountain tribes, who had rebelled against Spanish rule for six long years. The tribes, led by Si Taurez, found the Taxdirt hills an imposing challenge. However, the Spanish forces, under the command of General Marina, managed to breach these defenses. They claimed to have captured their leader, Si Taurez, during the battle. This victory, aided by the cavalry led by Teniente Coronel Cavalcanti, was secured by nightfall, leaving the Taxdirt stronghold defeated.
