A poignant testament: Žibininkai Monument to Lithuanian Partisans

The Žibininkai Monument to Lithuanian Partisans stands as a symbol of heroism and sacrifice in the Žibininkai forest, Lithuania. Commissioned by the Lithuanian Political Prisoners' and Activists' Union and sculpted by Julius Vertulis, the 1.4-meter high, 1.84-meter wide monument, fashioned from dark grey granite, is the resting place of 70 men, including Alfonsas Knistautas, Stasys Lisauskas, Pranas Budrys, Vytautas Daugintis, Vytautas Gricius, Bronius Salys, and Vytautas Bagūnas. Bronius Salys was the sole survivor of the burial. The location of the Partisan corps remains unknown. The monument was erected at the site of a Partisan detachment, buried in 1949 using a Nariman container.
