From the end of Sjöstigen, a coastal path curves to the right toward the lake. Pestilence root grows at the edge. The flowers appear in early spring and large green leaves emerge toward summer.
Several small islets have formed at the lake's end. One of them drifted away on September 12, 1977 - but floated back.
A constructed dam slows Långsjöns outflow, causing the water surface to rise slightly, unlike many other lakes that have been lowered. It is also a perfect spot to observe the lake's many birds, ducks, coots, herons, and more.
Långsjöns water flows into Mälaren, first through a straight and then a winding and partially culverted stream through Segeltorp, Kungens kurva, Skärholmen, and Vårby gård.
Some of Mälaren's water is pumped into the Norsborg waterworks, purified, and pumped back as drinking water for those of us living around the lake.
The municipal border between Stockholm and Huddinge runs through the middle of the lake from NW to SE, and one of Ingvar Thorén's signs welcomes you to the Stockholm side; he was diligent, and there are more signs.
