The Disputed Past of Jurbarkas Hillfort

Bišpilio, commonly known as Jurbarkas, is believed to date back to the medieval period, with some estimates placing it anywhere between the 11th and 14th centuries. However, recent archaeological findings suggest a more intriguing tale. Most theories propose that Jurbarkas has never hosted a castle, although a castle called Kolainių pilis is sometimes mentioned. The legitimacy of this castle remains unconfirmed. One fact that is clear, though, is that the historic Battle of Grunwald, which significantly influenced the region, took place in 1410.
