Galicia's Romanesque Architecture: The Oldest Cathedral

The Basilica of San Martiño de Mondoñedo, located in the municipality of Foz in Galicia, Spain, is considered the oldest cathedral in the country. The current church, built in Romanesque architecture, dates from the late 11th century, making it one of the oldest examples of this style in Spain. Reinforced with buttresses during the 18th century, the church has been standing for more than a millennium. The Basilica has been a significant religious site for centuries. Two bishops held their seat in the 9th century at the same location. Today, it stands as a testament to Spain's rich history and architecture.
