Coronation Stone, Kingston upon Thames, London

The Coronation Stone is an ancient sarsen stone block that is currently located next to the Guildhall in Kingston upon Thames, England. It is a Grade I listed building. It is believed that seven Anglo-Saxon kings were crowned on this stone, although historical evidence confirms that at least four kings, Athelstan (925), Eadred (946), Aethelred the Unready (979), and Edward (975), were crowned in Kingston. There is some evidence to suggest that Edgar (959) was also crowned there. The other three kings (Edward the Elder, Edmund, and Eadwig) are traditionally believed to have been crowned there, but more recent historical evidence has questioned those beliefs. The stone was originally located in St Mary's Chapel.
