Maura's Bronze Speech in Palma's Market Square

In the vibrant Plaça del Mercat of Palma de Mallorca, Spain, stands the Monument to Antonio Maura. This bronze statue, created by artist Mariano Benlliure, stands as a symbol of public art and honors one of Spain's most influential politicians. The statue depicts Maura in an oratorical pose atop a stone pedestal, with a marble allegory of Truth below, pointing towards a quote inscribed, 'antonio maura igualó con la vida el pensamiento'.

The monument, a symbol of Spanish history, has an intriguing past. Commissioned by public subscription, the statue was unveiled on the fourth anniversary of Maura's passing on 13 December 1929.

However, on 11 November 2014, the statue faced a tragic incident when a nearby ficus tree fell, causing damage to the monument. After a restoration process, the statue was returned to its original location on 11 November 2015.
