Ancient Tragedy at Rumlaborg: A Fortress with a Tumultuous Past

The ancient fortress of Rumlaborg, originally named Humlab org, dates back to the 13th or early 14th century. It was built as a fortress to protect Västra Holavedsvägen and Östra Holavedsvägen. The site was located in Huskvarna, in Hakarps socken in Jönköpings kommun. The borgen was rebuilt in 1448 by Karl Knutsson (Bonde) following its original destruction in an unspecified year.

In 1434, Rumlaborg was defended during Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson's uprising. However, it was later betrayed and burned down by Erik of Pommern's rider Otto Snaps. In 1452, the fortress was taken by Eric Nipertz. In 1464, it was besieged again during Karl Knutsson's renewed power takeover. Sten Sture den äldre destroyed Rumlaborg and it fell into disrepair. In the 1930s, Rumlaborg was restored and archaeological excavations were conducted.
