Berenike Panchrysos was an ancient town of ancient Egypt, located near Sabae in the Regio Troglodytica. It sat on the west coast of the Red Sea, between the 20th and 21st degrees of North latitude in modern-day Sudan.
The town obtained its name, Panchrysos, from its proximity to the gold mines of Jebel Allaqi. These mines provided the principal supplies of gold for the ancient Egyptians.
During the working of these mines, the ancient Egyptians employed criminals and prisoners of war to extract the metal.
