Located on the left bank of the Tajo River, Albalat Castle played a significant role in the Battle of Lugar Nuevo of the Guerra de Independencia. Although it was destroyed in 1142, its strategic location and imposing walls remain, offering a glimpse into the history of the region. Albalat Castle was originally occupied during Muslim rule, although it was not explicitly built during that time. The castle was built on a platform overlooking the Tajo River and was an important stopping point on ancient Roman roads. Since 2009, the site has been the focus of an archaeological study by archaeologist Sophie Gilotte.
