A statue saluting the International Brigades: a memorial to their farewell

The David i Goliat is a commemorative sculpture, funded by the North American Spanish Civil War Historical Society and the association linked to one of the contingents that belonged to the Brigades Internacionals, the Abraham Lincoln Battalion, located in the district of Horta-Guinardó, in Barcelona. The statue was unveiled on October 28, 1988. At its base, excerpts of the farewell speech given by Dolores Ibárruri, the Pasionaria, can be found inscribed. The Brigades Internationals were military units formed by left-wing volunteers from various countries, to fight in the Spanish Civil War, in support of the Republic and against fascism. The Brigades Internationals participated in the war as shock troops, until September 23, 1938, when they withdrew from the conflict due to international pressure.
