Ovesholm Castle is not your typical stately home. Built in 1792-1804, it was commissioned by Carl Adam Wrangel, a governor with ambition. Unlike royalty, Wrangel was not afraid to build his own manor house, and he did so in style.
The castle's grand reception rooms, regal staircases, and high ceilings were not enough for Wrangel. In the mid-19th century, Count Axel Raoul Hamilton took the castle to new heights, quite literally, with an extension that far exceeded the original structure.
Today, Ovesholm Castle stands in Kristianstad Municipality, Skåne County, Sweden, a testament to the grandeur, imagination, and unusual twists that come with Swedish manor homes.
